As of 2 p.m. Wednesday, China has reported 14,866 deaths following a devastating quake that rocked the southwestern Sichuan Province and other areas on Monday, Xinhua learnt from authoritative sources.

Among the figure, 14,463 were dead in Sichuan Province, 280 in Gansu Province, 106 in Shaanxi Province, 14 in Chongqing Municipality, two in Henan Province and one in Yunnan Province.

Li Chengyun, vice governor of Sichuan, said at a news conference in Chengdu that Sichuan's death toll of 14,463 was based on incomplete figures by 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. He said another 14,051 were missing, 25,788 buried in debris, and 64,746 injured.

Being faced with such catastrophic earthquake disaster, as a Chinese, our heart is bleeding, for those victims, for thousands of our compatriots.
